OUGD406: Group Film: Behind the scenes
These are some shots of us filming. We improvised quite a lot, like mockumentaries do. I felt this gave our film authenticity. Some of the hardest shots to capture were the ones of Harvey trying to sleep. Although we are not actors, the cheesy acting i think added to the humour of the piece.

OUGD406: Module Evaluation
I feel this module has
allowed me to develop my skills across an array of mediums. In this module in
particular I feel like I have learnt and experimented with with a lot of things
new to me.
I learnt how to screen
print properly for my first time. This allowed me to appreciate traditional
print more. It made me realise the effort and thought that goes into every
print. As well as how wrong it can go and the how time consuming it is. But defiantly
worth it when you pull up the screen. It has inspired me to spend more time
focusing on hands on approaches to graphics next year.
I really warmed to
penguin book project. After already attempting some book covers for design
principles, I felt more confident with approaching this project. I feel my
design layout improved dramatically. I married my photography and hand type I felt
my cover suited and took a modern approach to classic novel. I would like to do
more editorial design next year. Being more skilled makes me want to create
some kind of magazine in second year.
The exhibition group
project was the brief I least enjoyed. Although I felt I final outcomes were
strong, I felt some members of my group tried to take to much control. This made
the project feel a lot less like a group collaboration. Saying this I felt I developed
my wayfinding skills and did enjoy the design aspect of designing the
wayfinding.
Although the shortest
project, my group film was the one I enjoyed most. It made me develop skills
across film and editing. This area of design is something I’m really
enthusiastic about and definitely something I want to do more of next year.
In conclusion, I feel
this module has not only allowed me develop skills across new mediums and
techniques but has forced me to churn out work a lot quicker. Finishing this
year on this module has left me very confident with approaching the second year
equipped with a rounded set of graphic design skills.
OUGD406: Substrate Group: RA UM Screen cleaning
After RA UM was chosen
as the exhibition branding, I was put into the screen printing group. The group
was tasked with creating screen prints for the invitations and posters. To help
the group I cleaned and put emulsions onto screens. This was the first step in
creating the prints and although not the most exciting activity, someone had to
do it. Doing the first step in the screen printing allowed me to get my part done so i could focus on other work.
OUGD406: Group Film: Evaluation
Although probably the shortest project I have done this year, it
has been one of my favourite. Working with moving image is something that I really
enjoy doing. It allows me to use my skills across a range of applications. Having
a short amount of time, I feel worked in the groups favour. It forced us to
work quickly and get out and get the shots. The team worked really well
together all adding to ideas and coming to compromises so that we were all
happy with the end product. I developed skills filming, considering the set up
of shots a lot more to create a smooth story. My editing skills developed, and made
me even more enthusiastic to develop them further on premier pro. If we had had more time to do the project, it
would have been nice to have written up some scripts and of had some dialogue. As
well as re shooting a couple of scenes so that it could look as cinematic as
possible. Saying that I feel this would take away from the style we have, and maybe
make the film less funny and to set up and clean.
