Evaluation:
Although shorter than
expected, this was one of my favourite modules. I liked the array of briefs allowing
me develop skills across the board with my design. Although the majority of the
practical work was created a while ago, this gave me the chance to revisit the
projects and make alterations after a long time away from the work. This gave
me the opportunity to critic myself and see what I could improve, so the work
communicates at its best. I found this interesting as my style and way of
working has changed a lot since then, allowing me to see my previous design
mistakes.
Learning about the key
principles has given me a much more rounded knowledge of design. With out
realising it this module has seriously impacted the way I approach any design. Design
principles has made consider layout, how things sit on a page and at what
scale, using grids and breaking them! When I approach format now I’m not so
narrow minded. I think about the size, scale and stock, not the simplest,
immediate thought in my mind. When I consider colour I think of Josef Alber and
how colours react and work with one and other, and what colour do I want to convey
for what feeling. My enjoyment of type from previous projects has boosted further
with this module. Making me realise the importance of type and crucial it.
Although I did enjoy
this project there were some things which I would have liked to of changed. Unfortunately,
I didn’t manage to print of my poster to scale at a1. I would have liked to put
some up on billboards and would have liked to of seen the work to scale and in
context. Although I did manage to print out and bind my colour booklet. I’m
happy with the aesthetic but I would have also like to re print this in the
digital printing suite. I would have been able to chose a nicer stock paper
with more weight, making the book feel a bit more valuable.
In conclusion this
project has aided me to understand the importance of the key principles in
design. This module has developed my skills and will make approach future projects
with a lot more care, thought and clarity, in order my design to communicate at
its best.
