The MK gallery is in
Milton Keynes and went through a rebranding which took a completely different
approach to other designers. Sara De Bondt studio created this concept of
creating a brand without the use of what you would normally use to create an identity.
No logo, colour pallet or typeface, only the m and k being glued together. She
based her ideas on the history of commuting into London city. The city has a
strong grid system and structure. She related this grid system and used it to
create the identity. Using 6 system fonts but marrying them together through
the use of the format of the grid system.
Always hanging of the
same line, and if the line is full it pushes to the next line down depending on
the size of the boxes. This individual approach to branding I would expect not
work. But the grid system is so impactful through big block colour and the M and K work so well together in all fonts it all comes together creating a
unique brand.
